Why your cleaners should get instructions in their own language

· Readyby team · 1 min read

In many European cities, the people who clean short-term rentals do not speak the local language as their first language. In Kraków many cleaners speak Ukrainian; in Lisbon, Nepali or Portuguese; in Barcelona, Spanish or Romanian.

What gets lost in translation

  • Special requests. "Extra bed in the living room" is easy to miss when it is in a language you read slowly.
  • Problems. A cleaner who cannot describe a broken boiler often does not report it at all.
  • Confirmations. A thumbs-up to a message you did not fully understand is not a confirmation.

What changes when the language fits

Teams that message cleaners in their own language see faster replies and fewer missed details. It also signals respect, which matters when good cleaners are hard to keep.

Doing it without learning five languages

Readyby writes to every cleaner in her language and translates her answers back to you. Notes you write once, such as "the key is in the green box", reach everyone in the right language. You keep writing in yours.
